The First Recipient of the Golden Visa

The first recipient of Indonesia’s Golden Visa was Shin Tae-Yong, the South Korean coach of the Indonesian national football team. The visa was ceremonially awarded to him on July 25 in Jakarta in the presence of President Joko Widodo, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim.

Golden Visa – A Tool to Attract Global Talent

President Widodo emphasized that the purpose of this policy is to attract highly skilled professionals and investors who can contribute to the country's development.

"We want world-class talents to come to Indonesia and bring benefits to our country," said Widodo. He also pointed out that the selection of visa recipients will be strict to ensure that only individuals with a positive impact are allowed entry.

The interest in the Golden Visa is already high—approximately 300 foreigners have applied for it. This program allows investors, highly qualified professionals, and successful entrepreneurs to live and work in Indonesia for 5 to 10 years.

Golden Visa Eligibility Requirements

Indonesia’s Golden Visa offers several pathways for eligibility:

  • Individual investors must invest a minimum of $2.5 million USD for a five-year visa or $5 million USD for a ten-year visa.
  • Corporate investors establishing companies in Indonesia must invest $25 million USD, with the company's directors and commissioners automatically receiving a five-year Golden Visa.
  • An alternative option is investment in Indonesian government bonds or shares in Indonesian companies.

During the official launch ceremony, Minister Yasonna Laoly highlighted that Indonesia is opening its doors to global professionals, investors, and talents.

"The introduction of this policy brings new optimism to businesses and investors, fostering economic growth," said Laoly.

A Clear Path to Growth and Development

With this initiative, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to supporting foreign investment and international collaboration. The Golden Visa program is not only for entrepreneurs but also extends to members of the Indonesian diaspora, property owners, retirees, and other global professionals who wish to contribute to the country’s economic prosperity.
